Federal Interior Minister Brigadier Ijaz Ahmed Shah (retd) Tuesday took notice of 10-year-old girl Farishta's murder who was killed allegedly after rape in the outskirts of the federal capital. The minister has directed inspector general of police (IGP) Islamabad to take immediate action in order to give exemplary punishment to culprits involved in the heinous crime. The interior minister also sought report from the IGP regarding the incident.

According to police, dead body of Farishta who went missing on May 15 last from Chak Shehzad was found in a forest at Shehzad Town area. She was killed allegedly after rape. The victim family belongs to Mohmand district. The family reported to the police on May 15 after Farishta left the house and went missing.

According to Gull Nabi, the ill-fated father of the girl who is residing here at Ali Pur, Farishta left home at 5pm on May 15 last for playing with other children but did not return home. Nabi stated in his application that he suspected that his daughter had been abducted by someone.

The family sources said the police took four days to register first information report (FIR) and did not conduct proper search for the girl. The body of the minor girl was spotted by the locals who informed the police. The police shifted the dead body to Polyclinic for postmortem.

The family and relatives of deceased girl while protesting against the police negligence placed dead body at Taramari Chowk and stopped traffic. They held police responsible for her murder. The family members said SHO Shehzad Town filed FIR after resistance of many days and alleged that the girl fled home at her own will.

Meanwhile, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has ordered a judicial inquiry into the murder of Farishta. The ICT administration appointed Bilawal Abro, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters), to conduct judicial inquiry into the said matter and furnish a comprehensive report within seven days.
