The chief minister directed Commissioner Karachi to personally visit the guest family of Quetta and initiate inquiry as per their statement and guidance. He also directed Sindh Food Authority (SFA) to collect samples of food from the restaurant and send them for lab test.
The initial report sent to the chief minister by the SFA and police says that a family from Quetta (Balochistan) reached Karachi last night around 8 p.m. and stayed in a room at Qasr-e-Naz, a federal government lodge.
On way to Karachi from Quetta, the family had taken some food during their stay in Khuzdar and Hub also. When they entered Karachi last night, the family purchased parcel packs of biryani and ate the same in their room. After eating biryani, wife started vomiting and she was taken to AKU hospital by her husband. In the morning of Friday, when he came back in the room with his wife, his five children and one girl, a relative, were found unconscious. He took them to hospital, but all were declared dead.
On the directives of the chief minister, The SFA team took samples of food from restaurant Nau Bahar near passport office in Saddar. They also collected leftover food and used plates from the room of Qasr-e-Naz where family was staying for lab test and necessary action.
The concerned police also took action as per their procedure. The chief minister also directed the Commissioner Karachi to arrange shifting of the aggrieved family along with six bodies back to Balochistan.
