Advocate Muzzamal Mumtaz Meo moved the high court against increase in the street crimes in metropolis and accused police of not taking concrete action for elimination of street crimes in the city. Petitioner submitted before the court that criminals freely roam in the city with the guns but the police is unable to arrest them. Street crimes especially mobile phone snatching is at rise in the city, petitioner stated.
Petitioner submitted that Supreme Court also ordered for elimination of street crime in Karachi lawlessness case. Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, IG and DG Rangers of the province have been made respondents in the petition. The report submitted by SSP Korangi stated that district police is sincere with its obligations and professionally perform their duties.
In connection to eradicate the menace of street crime, hectic efforts are being continued with all available resources, report suggested and disclosed that in order to overcome the street crimes, snap checking is carried out randomly, at least, four hours a day, effective mobile patrolling is carried out and also targeted operations are going on intelligence base information.
Resultantly, 255 street criminals arrested in 2018. In year 2019, 21 street criminals and 150 other criminals were arrested against recovery of illicit arms up- till now.
