Speaker Punjab Assembly Ch Parvez Elahi has said that Pakistani media is free and guarantor of human rights and prosperity of the country. He said this while speaking at the dinner hosted in honour of Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE).

Those who were present included President Arif Nizami, Zia Shahid, Imtenan Shahid, Ayaz Khan, Rehmat Ali Raazi, Ejazul Haq, Kazim Khan, Irshad Ahmad Arif, Tanvir Shaukat, Yousuf Nizami, Babar Nizami, Zulfiqar Ahmad Rahat, Ahmad Shafiq, Ali Ahmad Dhillon, Syed Intezar Hussain Zanjani, Muazzam Fakhar, Ovais Rauf, Abid Alim, Aslam Mian, Malik Liaquat Ali, Bashir Ahmad, Naushad Roy, Bashir Ahmad Khan, Zubair Mahmud, Waqas Tariq Farooq, Muhammad Akmal Chohan, Imtiaz Ahmad Roohani, Arshad Khan Rehani and M A Rauf among others.

Ch Parvez Elahi said that as the fourth pillar of the state, media has been combating the challenges particularly the newspapers have played the key role since independence in keeping the rulers on right path. They also created awareness among the people about their rights. Besides, the media played the role of a bridge between the people and those in power.

He said, "We have been in politics for a long time and we enjoy deep relationship with the journalists." Ch Parvez Elahi said that during the war against terrorism the brave journalists marvellously performed their role which has been appreciated by the people and armed forces of the country.

Speaking about the prevailing political and socio-economic situation of the country, he said because of wrong policies of Ishaq Dar and Nawaz Sharif the country is facing bad days now. He said the media should guide the government towards the right direction, if the rulers' intention is good then the country makes progress. CPNE President Arif nizami and Zia Shahid also spoke on the occasion.
