Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has imposed ban on use of blue cans for honey storage. In the regard, the authority has issued notification here on Thursday.

The notification stated that a grace period till August 2018 has been granted to the traders associated with the business to go for alternate. It further said that blue cans are being used for carcinogenic chemicals import and storage use of which is harmful for human health.

Upon contact the spokesperson of the authority, Attaullah Khan elaborated that about 0.7 million people are associated with honey business as the largest market of honey export is happen to be in Peshawar.

He further said traders' union has appreciated the decision to improve export quality as use of blue cans is the main hindrance in export of honey to European countries.

Khan also added that the KP Food Authority is to regulate upgrade food business and the same notification is a step to upgrade the business to international level. The traders' union said that they have already adopted the alternate by arranging and encouraging food graded cans for storage of honey.
