A glittering ceremony to confer awards on academic, research and creative books and to unveil the newly-compiled anthology of 100 Sindhi short stories to mark centenary fruition of Sindhi short-story complied by Shoukat Hussain Shoro was organized by Institute of Sindhology at its Pir Hisamuddin Rashdi Auditorium the other day, with renowned writer Shoukat Hussain Shoro in the chair and Chairman Sindhi Language Authority Dr Abdul Ghafoor Memon in the seat as the event Chief Guest; whereas, illustrious authors Madad Ali Sindhi, Rasool Memon and Inam Shaikh were among the Guests of Honour.

Shoro in his presidential remarks on the occasion paid rich tribute to the Institute Director Dr Ishaq Samejo for having revived after 30 years the glorious tradition of acknowledging the best books produced in a year's time; as the ritual had been started by the then Director Mehtab Akbar Rashdi in mid eighties period of the institute.

The event Chief Guest and Chairman Sindhi Language Authority Dr Abdul Ghafoor Memon, greatly appreciating the initiative, remarked that conferment of the awards on the annual basis for the best-written books was a healthy trend which merited continuity.

Dr Memon said that the book 'One Hundred Year of Sindhi Short Story' complied by Shoukat Hussain Shoro unfolded to readers the entire critical twists and turns of 20th century; throwing spotlight on all major and prominent trends, forms, movements, ideologies, revolutions and upheavals in the fields of art, literature, philosophy, politics, theology and other domains of human thought. Famous prose writer Madad Ali Sindhi exhibited immense joy upon having received award for his book by Institute of Sindhology.

"This award carries special significance as it is institutional rather than personal or public in its intent, scope and nature. "I am highly delighted to have won this award from Institute of Sindhology," he affirmed. Sindhi also eulogized the painstaking contribution of Shoukat Hussain Shoro towards compiling the book. Rasool Memon said that literature would not thrive in a culture where even the basic education was a challenge. Earlier, the Institute Director Dr Ishaq Samejo presented welcome note and thanked VC SU Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat for his constant support and patronage.
