Law enforcement agencies have put in place a strict security blanket in the provincial capital to ensure foolproof security during the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Twenty-20 cricket series scheduled to be held on Saturday (today) at Gaddafi Stadium. According to the security plan, over 12,000 security personnel including three SSPs, 13 SPs, 131 inspectors and 718 upper subordinates have been deployed for the security of the players and spectators.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Ashfaq Khan said in a statement that the police force is all set to provide security to the Sri Lankan team as well as Pakistani cricket players for the T20 cricket matches. He said citizens will only be allowed to enter the stadium after being thoroughly checked and will not be allowed to carry any prohibited items.

Previously, he added, the Lahore police had ensured foolproof security at all national and international cricket events being held in the provincial capital. The senior officer said that round the clock monitoring of teams, matches, as well as movements in and around the stadium, will be carried out through CCTV cameras installed by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA). He added that Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit (PRU) teams will continue patrolling specific areas in the city.

Meanwhile, the City Traffic Police (CTP) issued a traffic plan for maintaining smooth functioning of the traffic during the playoffs. Similarly, spectators coming from Motorway Thokhar Niaz Baig, Wapda Town, Garden Town, Johar Town and Township are advised to park their vehicles in Punjab University Hostels ground through Faisal Town Barkat Market.

The spectators coming from Kahna, Kot Lakhpat and Ferozpur Road would park their vehicles in Liberty Market through Qainchi, Walton Road, Cavalry, Jinnah Flyover, Firdous Market and Hussain Chowk while citizens coming from Cantt and Gulberg are advised to park their vehicles in LDA Parking Plaza right behind Hotel Sun Fort.

The citizens coming from Walton, Defence are advised to park their vehicles in Liberty Market through Calvary, Firdous Market and Hussain Chowk. The spectators coming from Zahoor Elahi Road, Main Market and Halli Road are advised to park their vehicles in FC College from Zahoor Elahi Road. According to the CTO, the entry of motorcycles, rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, LNG/LPG and CNG vehicles are restricted in the parking lots. He said all the spectators must have national identity cards (CNICs) and tickets.

The CTO said that citizens having tickets of Saeed Anwar enclosure, Sarfraz Nawaz enclosure, Saeed Ahmad enclosure, Javid Miandad enclosure, Javed Miandad enclosure and Imran Khan enclosure, would enter Gaddafi Stadium through Liberty Market while citizens having tickets of Ramiz Raja enclosure, Abdul Qadir enclosure, Majid Khan enclosure, AH Kardar enclosure and Fazal Mehmood enclosure would enter Gaddafi Stadium via Punjab University Hostel ground parking through Ferozpur Road gate.

He said the CTP Radio FM 88.6 and RASTA app would keep the citizens informed about the traffic situation while the citizens can also contact at police helpline 15 for further information.
