BRIndex30 closed at 17,353.53 points, down 0.41 points with a turnover of 127.905 million shares. The KSE-100 Index inched up by 8.04 points to close at 32,078.85 points. Daily trading volumes on the ready counter increased to 166.047 million shares as compared to 135.161 million shares traded Friday.
The market capitalization declined by Rs 3 billion to Rs 6.406 trillion. Out of total 363 active scrips, 181 closed in positive, 156 in negative while the value of 26 stocks remained unchanged.
K-Electric was the volume leader with 55.568 million shares. However, it lost Re 0.08 to close at Rs 3.55 followed by Bank of Punjab that closed at Rs 8.72, down Re 0.03 with 10.838 million shares.
Service Industries and Sanofi-Aventis were the top gainers with Rs 23.45 and Rs 20.00, respectively to close at Rs 538.45 and Rs 490.00 while Philip Morris Pak and Ismail Industries were the top losers with Rs 170.05 and Rs 18.30, respectively to close at Rs 3,230.95 and Rs 348.00. BR Automobile Assembler Index decreased by 38.99 points or 0.81 percent to close at 4,794.04 points with total turnover of 308,080 shares.
BR Cement Index lost 14.24 points or 0.54 percent to close at 2,647.18 points with 18.453 million shares. BR Commercial Banks Index fell by 21.05 points or 0.28 percent to close at 7,530.41 points with 16.259 million shares.
BR Power Generation and Distribution Index inched up by 0.32 points or 0.01 percent to close at 4,424.71 points with 61.834 million shares. BR Oil and Gas Index increased by 29.57 points or 0.8 percent to close at 3,708.21 points with 14.677 million shares. BR Tech. & Comm. Index gained 1.12 points or 0.17 percent to close at 667.52 points with 14.613 million shares.
Maaz Mulla at JS Global Capital said that local bourse remained volatile as the KSE-100 Index traded between an intraday high of plus 324 points and intraday low of negative 141 points to finally close at 32,079 level, up 8 points.
Most of the selling pressure was witnessed during the second half of the day. Top volume leader of the bourse was KEL as 55 million share traded throughout the day on the back of the material information released by the company stating that they have received a fresh public announcement of intention from Shanghai electric power company to acquire up to 66.40 percent voting share of K-electric limited.
Mixed sentiments were witnessed in the Cement sector where DGKC (up 1.7 percent) and MLCF (up 0.3 percent) closed in the green whereas KOHC (down 1.8 percent), PIOC (down 2.0 percent) and LUCK (down 1.6 percent) closed in the red trajectory. From the E&P sector, heavy volumes were observed in POL (up 1.3 percent), PPL (up 1.8 percent) and OGDC (up 0.2 percent) where respective scrip also closed positive.
