Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved as many as five development projects at the cost of Rs 11 billion and recommended two projects valuing Rs 25 billion to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for consideration. The CDWP met with Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan in the chair here at Planning Commission on Wednesday.

Secretary Planning Zafar Hasan and senior officials from the federal and provincial governments were also present in the meeting. The projects related to energy, industries & commerce, physical planning & housing, transport & communications and education were presented in the meeting. About the energy projects, the CDWP approved two projects related to energy sector including "500kv Moro substation" worth Rs 7147.47 million. The objective of the project is conversion of 500kv switching station at Moro to meet the growing power requirement of Sukkur Electric Power Company region including 132kv grid station at Kandiaro and Naushahro Feroz in the jurisdiction of the SEPCO.

A project related to industries and commerce 'Expo Centre Quetta,' worth Rs 2.5 billion, was approved by the CDWP in its meeting. The project envisages construction of two exhibition halls each having 45,000 sq ft floor area along with a convention centre and allied facilities in phase-1.

A project related to physical planning & housing namely "Sewerage system from Larech Colony to Gulshan-e-Ravi Lahore, worth Rs 14.15 billion, was presented which was recommended to the ECNEC for further approval. A total of two projects related to transport & communications were presented in the meeting.

First project "Operation-alization of Green Line BRTS Karachi" at cost of Rs 10.956 billion was recommended to the ECNEC. Second project titled "Renovation and construction of offices, women's barracks and multipurpose rooms at the office of Superintendent Railway Police Rawalpindi Division, at cost of Rs 129.309 million with INC grant, was approved by the CDWP. A project related to education was presented in the meeting namely "Establishment of National Curriculum Council," worth Rs 239.01 million, which was also approved by the CDWP.
