Cultivation area of sunflower crop continues to scale back in the province due to a water shortage and low support price, Provincial Agriculture Minister, Ismail Raho told the Sindh Assembly on Tuesday. During the questions and answers session, Raho replied that the sunflower growers find it hard to continue the crop cultivation because of the water shortage and low support price. He said that the factories processing the sunflowers seeds into oil have also complained about the poor quality of the production, besides the farmers now opt for wheat cultivation instead for a higher support price.

He said that there is a complaint on the quality of sunflowers seeds which the federal government imports for the local cultivation. "One of the reasons behind the sunflowers cultivation is substandard hybrid seeds," he told the legislature, saying that the edible oil stands second on the import index after highest petroleum products. To another query, Raho said that local market sells fruits and vegetable at prices notified by commissioner and deputy commissioner. The house also adopted a resolution presented by GDA's Nand Kumar on torching of Hindu temple in Ghotki, seeking a stern punishment for perpetrators.

A privilege motion of MMA's Syed Abdul Rasheed against the DG Sindh Building Control Authority was put off since the mover was absent. However, one adjournment motion of his was adopted on Pakistan Steels Mill facing problems for a debate. The motion will be discussed for two hours in one of the coming sittings.
