The great leaders of modern Singapore Lee Kwan Yeo had always received every investor - big or small - at his country's airport. In other words, he fully appreciated the criticality of foreign investment that his country - a city state - needed to transform itself into a modern, prosperous country. Prime Minister Imran Khan is required to follow in his footsteps.

Here I would fully endorse the argument of Business Recorder op-ed writers Huzaima Bukhari and Dr Ikramul Haq that they made in yesterday's op-ed "For the love of one's country" for this newspaper: "On the one hand, our incumbent prime minister is desperately seeking the assistance of expatriates to help the country out of its financial crisis and on the other, those who are willing to step in are ruthlessly shunned, discouraged and at times even persecuted for trying to establish industries, provide employment and boost economic growth with their hard earned money brought in through normal banking channels. There are many such instances where attempts to resettle have failed miserably."
