The PML (N) government initiated the sell-off process of power Distribution Companies (Discos) but shelved it after the employees including Labour Unions came on the streets.
Power sector (Gencos and Discos): CCoP agreed on June 17, 2019 in principle to the future strategy/reforms regarding privatisation of Discos as proposed by the Task force on Energy. It was also observed that privatisation of Discos cannot be shelved/put on hold for three years and directed the Task Force to present a viable plan for privatisation of one or two Discos. Moreover, Power Division was also directed to update the CCoP about closure/decommissioning of Gencos, which have outlived their recommended life.
On August 8, 2019, CCoP delisted PNSC, POA and KPT from the privatisation list as these entities, according to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs (MOMA), are in profit and are of national importance.

The Privatisation Commission Ordinance, 2000 has empowered the Privatisation Commission (PC) to implement the approved privatisation program. The CCoP on November 31, 2018 where eight PSEs were listed in the active program including Lakhra Coal Development Company (LCDC), also directed Ministry of IT & Telecom (MoIT&T) to carry out a detailed study regarding the current status of TIP and the possibility of its privatisation and submit the report thereof to the CCoP. The concerned Ministry, in its letter of August 23, 2019 conveyed that MoIT&T intends to revive TIP through a Joint Venture. In this direction, following steps have already been taken: (i) detailed document/ paper including an advertisement for Expression of Interest (EoI) for Joint Venture has been prepared in consultation with the employees of TIP which has been shared (informally) with the experts of Privatisation Commission and has been vetted; and (ii) the document/paper for Joint Venture is being placed before the Board of Directors (BoD) of TIP for consideration and approval in its upcoming meeting.
The Ministry of IT & Telecom has requested the CCoP to delist TIP from the active list of privatisation so that the organization can be revived. On August 8, 2019, CCoP also expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of PC which held the concerned Ministries/Divisions responsible for delay in meeting the deadlines.
