Director General (DG) Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) on Tuesday directed the management of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) to take necessary measures on fast pace regarding proper handling of the hospital's waste for compliance of Sindh Hospital Waste Management Rules-2014.

An official of SEPA said DG Nacem Ahmed Mughal, along with EPA's monitoring team visited the KMC-run health facility located in Nazimabad District Central where they noted improper measures about collection, segregation, storage, transportation and disposal of hospital waste generated from its different wards.

During discussion DG SEPA briefed that hospitals were source of generation of risk and non risk waste, adding it ultimately damaged the environment.

He warned Dr Nadeem Rajput Medical Superintendent of ASH for rectification of improper handling of hospital waste and directed for necessary measures on fast pace regarding proper handling of hospital waste for compliance of Sindh Hospital Waste Management Rules-2014.

He added that non-compliance of this action according the provisions of Sindh Environmental Protection Act-2014 shall be taken in interest of general public.

MS of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital assured the visiting team for compliance of Sindh Hospital Waste Management Rules 2014.
