The Sindh government on Tuesday furnished the notification for establishment of Sindh HIV and AIDS control treatment and protection commission in Sindh High Court (SHC), which ordered the commission to start working for prevention and control of the disease.

The division bench of the SHC headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar had ordered for the constitution of commission last month and the provincial government complied with the orders by furnishing the report about its constitution.

The court stated that commission would not start functioning and the court should be approached if found any shortcomings in its working while giving the observations in a petition filed by various organisations and individuals.

Giving the arguments in the court, counsel for petitioners submitted that the provincial government had failed to constitute the commission in six years since the passage of bill for such commission from Sindh Assembly.

The Counsel also sought handing over the endowment fund, announced by the Sindh chief minister for AIDs control to this commission.

Meanwhile, a division bench of the SHC directed K-electric (KE) to furnish the reply in the petition related to death of several persons due to electrocution in the rains last month.

The court gave the orders to KE in a petition, filed by Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, which moved the court against the KE, holding it responsible for death of several persons due to electrocution. Upon the request of KE counsel for time to submit the reply, the bench ordered the counsel to furnish its reply in the next hearing.
