Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri has announced to step down from Chairmanship of Pakistan Awami Tehreek and quit "practical" politics and devote all his energies for academic activities and creating awareness among the Muslim Ummah. While addressing a press conference through video link from Canada, he said as Quaid of Tehreek Minhaj Ul Quran he will continue to guide nation ideologically, however, completion of academic programs will be his focus.

He said he would not hand over his PAT leadership to his sons instead he had transferred power to party's council. He said his battle of justice for victims of Model Town massacre was not politics but a matter of faith and that struggle would continue till his last breath.

He said it was painful to see that the JIT formed to reinvestigate Model Town Case at the directions of larger bench of Supreme Court had been suspended. He said those caught in high profile corruption cases were not undergoing punishment, rather facing settlement.

Speaking about present governance system, he said parliament was just a debating club wherein personal interests were defended, and electoral system was supported by rigging, corruption and other illegal means. The people who reach parliament change their parties as birds change their nests.

"The change is not seen anywhere which was promised." He said he had prepared a 'Quran Encyclopedia' which contained eight volumes while he was still working on Sunnah Encyclopedia which would contain 40 volumes. He said he and Imran Khan struggled jointly. "When Imran Khan was not in power, he spoke for justice in Model Town case. Now it is his responsibility to play a role in providing justice to victim families and honor his all promises of change he made before elections."

He said had a serious attempt of accountability been made a lot would have been recovered from those who are involved in corrupt practices. "Let's see if these high profile cases of corruption end up in settlement or punishment." "In the 72 days sit-in, we educated the public on electoral reforms and across-the-board accountability. We popularized this thought and created awareness. Pakistan Awami Tehreek's decision-making body will continue to function independently in accordance with the rules of the Election Commission. I will just providing them guidance," he concluded.
