Provincial Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Welfare Raja Basharat has directed all Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners to complete the identification of the Benami (anonymous) properties by September 30, as directed by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He was chairing a meeting of the CM Provincial Committee on Benami Transactions at Civil Secretariat on Thursday.

The meeting reviewed the strategy for identifying Benami properties in the province. Raja Bashart said that special attention should be paid to the major cities where the disclosure of more unnamed properties is likely.

He urged the concerned departments to utilize all the resources to make this campaign a success. Malik Mohammed Anwar suggested that help of old Patwaris be sought instead of computer operators of the Land Records Authority for identifying anonymous properties.

The Chief Secretary directed all the Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners to identify the anonymous properties as well as to report the obstacles they faced so that they could be removed in a timely manner.

The next meeting will be held on September 17 to assess further progress, he said. Senior Member Board of Revenue briefed that according to the report received, some anonymous properties have been identified in Lahore, Bahawalpur, Multan, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad divisions.

He suggested that a campaign in print and electronic media be necessary to accelerate the campaign against Benami properties, which the committee agreed with. Minister for Revenue Malik Mohammad Anwar, Chief Secretary Punjab Yousuf Nasim Khokhar, Additional Chief Secretary Sardar Ijaz Ahmed, Senior Member Board of Revenue Shaukat Ali and other officers were also present.
