Business Recorder op-ed writer Shabir Ahmed's is the right diagnosis of our state of affairs. In his latest contribution for the newspaper "Our revolving door of existential threats" he fully explains our profoundly flawed approach to different kinds of threats and challenges. According to him, "the reason we have this revolving door of existential threats - a constant stream of 'one calamity out and another one in' - is because we choose to remain in a state of denial until it hits the fan. We see things evolving, the genie getting out of the bottle, the wound festering, but just don't react to it in time. 'A stitch in time saves nine' is not us".

True, if we sort out a problem immediately, it may save extra work later. Unfortunately, however, we always wait and deal with threats and challenges later. Things, therefore, get worse and the problems take longer to deal with.
