President Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Sardar Masood Khan, Federal Law Minister Farogh Naseem, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood and other senior civilian and military officials attended the meeting. According to the state-run media, the foreign minister said he will "shake the global conscience on serious human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir."
He informed the meeting about the situation in IOK after Indian unilateral decisions of August 5 and efforts made by Pakistan so far to highlight the issue at international forums.
He said that the ongoing curfew imposed by the Indian security forces in IOK has continued for more than a month and the continued lockdown and communications blockade, and the massive human rights violations have created a dire humanitarian situation in the held area which need to be urgently addressed.
The meeting decided to enhance coordination between the state institutions and relevant departments to highlight Kashmir cause at the international level and to mobilise public support domestically to organise different activities to express solidarity with the people of IOK with active public participation.
Last month, Prime Minister Imran Khan had constituted the Kashmir Cell to formulate a joint strategy on the situation in worsening situation in the occupied valley.
The Cell has been mandated to expedite the efforts to highlight Kashmir issue on all forums. The foreign minister was scheduled to leave for Geneva on Sunday night to attend the Human Rights Council meeting. The 42nd session of the Human Rights Council is scheduled to start today (September 9) in Geneva. It would continue till September 27.
