Firmness prevailed on the money market on Thursday as the rupee moved up slightly against the dollar in the process of trading activity, dealers said.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee inched up in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 157.30 and Rs 157.32 respectively, they said.

OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee gained 10 paisas in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 157.00 and Rs 157.50 respectively, dealers said. The rupee was available against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 173.25 and Rs 175.25 respectively, they said.

In the fourth Asian trade, the dollar held gains against the safe-haven yen on Thursday as ebbing recession worries soothed markets after earlier volatility although the pound nursed its losses as investors became increasingly worried about a hard Brexit.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, rose 0.16% to 98.189.

The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 72.045, the greenback was at 4.223 versus the Chinese yuan and the US currency was at 7.168 in relation to the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee witnessed divergent trend in the process of trading against the greenback in the local currency market on Thursday.

Amidst fluctuating demand and supply situation in the market, the greenback moved both ways and ended for buying and selling at Rs 157.10 and Rs 157.55 against the opening rates of Rs 157.20 and Rs 157.50 respectively, local currency dealers said.

Moreover, the national currency showed strength as it appreciated its worth versus the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates declined from the Wednesday's closing of Rs 191.00 and Rs 192.50 to Rs 190.70 and Rs 192.00 respectively, they added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained 20 paisas against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.

The dollar opened at Rs 157.80(buying) and Rs 157.90(selling) against last rate of Rs 158(buying) and Rs 158.10(selling).

It closed at Rs 157.80(buying) and Rs 157.90(selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold were Rs. 89,000 (selling) and Rs 88,500(buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
