Iqbal Kazmi Advocate filed the petition against the decision of Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar, who first notified Kamal as project director garbage and then de-notified him. The petitioner argued that Mustafa Kamal was suspended hours after his appointment and contended that suspension without issuance show-cause notice was illegal. The court asked the petitioner to first explain the laws which allowed such appointment. The bench observed that how the suspension was challenged if the appointment was not made in accordance with the laws. "Have you come here for making fun with the court," Justice Shafi Siddiqui remarked while addressing the petitioner.
The court sought the laws by showing its annoyance when the petitioner argued that Mayor Karachi is incompetent if the appointment was legally wrong. Mayor Karachi, Mustafa Kamal and Secretary Local Government Sindh were made respondents in the petition.
The petitioner submitted that civic conditions in Karachi turned worst due to incompetence of Mayor Karachi and Local Government Department Sindh. The court dismissed the petition against suspension of Mustafa Kamal with the observations that the appointment held no legal ground. Meanwhile, the SHC bench issued notices to Sindh Government, Mayor Karachi and District municipal corporations (DMCs) of metropolis in a petition related to city infested with swarms of flies.
A citizen Sameer Hussain Soomro filed the petition in the court stating that flies swarming in the city made the life of people of the city miserable and feared about outbreak of diseases because insecticides have not been sprayed. The petitioner pleaded the court to issue orders to authorities concerned to take appropriate action to spray the city to save the people from diseases.
