The petition submitted in the court stated that suspension of notification by Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar regarding Kamal's appointment as project director garbage illegal. Mayor Karachi, Mustafa Kamal and Secretary Local Government Sindh have been made respondents in the petition.
The petition, filed by Iqbal Kazmi Advocate, stated that heavy downpour in the current month flooded the streets and roads of the city and gave birth to deteriorated civic conditions in the city. Mayor Karachi and Local Government Department Sindh are not ready to discharge their responsibilities, it said.
It mentioned that Mustafa Kamal accepted the challenge to clean the city in 90 days, however notification for his appointment as "Project Director Garbage was suspended only a day after its issuance. The petitioner sought the court orders to declare de-notifying Kamal as project director garbage illegal.
Meanwhile, the SHC was also moved against fly infestation of city after the rain spell in the current month. Petitioner Sameer Hussain Soomro filed the petition in SHC stating that swarms of flies attacked the city after rain when rainy water accumulated on the streets and roads as well as tons of garbage were not lifted and offal of sacrificial animal were not properly disposed of.
The petitioner sought the court orders to direct the authorities to fumigate the city otherwise the situation in the city would become worst if nothing was done on urgent basis.
