The fact that majority of these electrocutions were reported in homes raises serious concerns on the body supposed to keep a check on internal wiring, Electrical Inspector Karachi (EIK) which comes under Energy Department, Government of Sindh.
It is pertinent to note that an internal wiring fitness certificate is issued by EIK every time a new power connection is installed, but with the passage of time, little do we realise the importance of having a safety check for the wiring system that may just have deteriorated.
It is high time for the authorities to develop a mechanism to re-inspect premises whose internal wiring have deteriorated with the passage of time while educating citizens about the importance of maintaining quality of internal wiring which may substantially minimize the risk of casualties during inclement weather.
