He labeled the BJP government in India as genocidal and fascist one, which is detrimental to the secular credentials of Indian constitution. About the security issues in the country, Haq said that today the world is a globalised one and no country can live in isolation, adding that the same applies to Pakistan, which is sensitized with the world issues as well as with the security issues concerning itself in the region.
He noted that vulnerabilities of the country in the backdrop of geo-strategic context are being overcome. He urged clarity and consensus on the core national issues in the larger interest of the country. Former General believed that Pakistan's foreign policy should have been proactive rather than reactive after India scrapped the provision 370 in its constitution, which gave disputed territory of Kashmir a special status.
The act of Indian government to abolish the clause 370 in the constitution was not a surprise one and was on the cards since long. The Modi government acted upon it in pursuance of its long-seeking ambition to merge disputed region in Indian union, Haq said. The current regime in India is following the path of RSS ideology, which wanted to undo the partition of the sub-continent in two separate countries - India and Pakistan in 1947.
"We need political and economic stability," he said and added that the country needed credible national narrative as well as policies to put its house in order. Talking about the situation in Afghanistan, Haq said that peace in the neighboring country is in the interest of whole region and a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan guarantees development of whole region. He hoped that the US and Taliban would agree on the peaceful settlement of Afghan issue. "Peaceful and stable Afghanistan is also vital for Pakistan," he maintained.
