The resolution that first sought Rs 5 million for the victims was debated by the legislators, who finally proposed an amendment to it with Rs 50 million compensation for each of the victims. Later, the resolution was adopted unanimously. TLP's Mufti Qasim Fakhri, who supported the resolution, said that "we demand each victim should be paid a Rs 50 million of compensation".
MQM's Rabia Khatoon said that the K-Electric's 'defective' electricity supply system took life of over 30 people in the city. "Three friends and kids who they trapped into the deadly electrocution," she clamored, saying that there should be a decisive step to make the power supplier answerable. She said that the K-Electric tariffs consumers as per power unit rates but extends no relief to the public in return.
MMA's Syed Abdul Rasheed said that K-Electric that has been privatized over the last 14 years that he alleged of 'plundering' with checks from the regulator. He said that the innocent people have been killed with no responsibility placed on anyone. Since K-Electric 14-year privatization, it even could not bother to install an 'earth wire' to make the power supply safe. He also accused the K-Electric of 'stealing' copper wires.
Earlier, Sindh Excise and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mukesh Kumar Chawla during questions and answers session complained that the federal government has released less funds from Sindh's share. He also urged the opposition members to fight for Sindh's rights.
He said that the government completed the community development program within a year started in 2018. Under the program, he said, solar energy, lights, healthcare and water schemes were initiated, besides setting up dialysis centers and small roads. The house was latter adjourned till Wednesday at 2pm.
