On Friday, Foreign Minister Qureshi held telephonic conversations with Foreign Minister of Japan Taro Kono and Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.
According to Spokesperson Foreign Office Dr Mohammad Faisal, the foreign minister apprised his Japanese counterpart of the blatant human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir and the regional peace and security situation over the telephone.
Qureshi said that India intends to change the demography of Occupied Kashmir through illegal steps, adding that curfew has been imposed in the occupied valley since August 05. Resultantly, the people of Kashmir are faced with shortages of food and medicines, he added.
The foreign minister said the presence of 900,000 troops in Occupied Kashmir is a proof that India wants to perpetrate bloodbath in the occupied valley. He also stated that the situation is so alarming that Genocide Watch like international organisation has issued an alert on Occupied Kashmir.
Qureshi said that despite curfew, the Kashmiri people have announced to come out from their homes for the Friday prayers. He said that there is a threat of bloodshed on a large scale in such kind of situation.
The foreign minister urged Japan to play its role to save the armless Kashmiri people from the persecution of India and for regional peace and stability.
The Japanese foreign minister said they are keeping a close eye on the entire situation and that his country believes in upholding the human rights and the rule of law. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement, saying that at the beginning, Qureshi explained about the recent situation in Kashmir.
"In response, Minister Kono stated that Japan had been closely following the situation in Kashmir with interest," it stated, adding that Minister Kono further requested the parties concerned to exercise self-restraint to avoid escalation of tensions.
"And, Minister Kono expressed his hope that the situation in Kashmir would be resolved peacefully through dialogue between the parties concerned," it added.
Qureshi also held telephonic conversation with Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid to discuss the current situation in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The foreign minister briefed his Maldivian counterpart on the illegal and unilateral actions of India to alter the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir, which is in contravention of the international law and UNSC resolutions.
He underlined that the steps taken by India in the occupied valley are a grave risk for peace and security in the region. The foreign minister apprised the Maldivian foreign minister of the continuously deteriorating human rights and humanitarian situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including severe shortage of food and lifesaving medicines, communications blackout and complete lockdown for the last 17 days.
He also said that an international organisation Genocide Watch has issued a 'Genocide Alert' for Indian Occupied Kashmir. He said that the situation is extremely alarming. The foreign minister urged Maldives to play a constructive role for peace and stability in the region and peaceful settlement of disputes. The Maldivian foreign minister said that they are closely watching the situation.
The two leaders agreed to remain in contact and continue to work together for peace and stability in the region.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives stated that Minister Qureshi briefed Minister Shahid on the recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir and conveyed the views of the government of Pakistan on the decision of the government of India to repeal the Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.
"Minister Shahid thanked Minister Qureshi for the telephone call and stated that both Pakistan and India are close friends and bilateral partners of the Maldives and stressed the importance of resolving differences between the countries amicably through peaceful means. Minister Shahid also stated that Maldives viewed the decision taken by India regarding the Article 370 of the Indian Constitution as an internal matter," it stated.
It further stated that Minister Shahid assured Minister Qureshi that Maldives will always remain a close friend of Pakistan and expressed his confidence that the Maldives and Pakistan will continue to cooperate in advancing interests on areas of mutual concern, bilaterally, regionally, and internationally.
