An accountability court on Saturday extended judicial remand of six suspects including former director general Punjab Sports Board Usman Anwar till August 24 in an alleged corruption case of Punjab Youth Festivals. The suspects include Ahsanul Haq, Muhammad Imran, Tayyab Waseem, Muhammad Asif and Khalid Mahmood who were brought to the court from jail on expiry of their previous remand.

The investigating officer presented a report to the court showing progress in the investigation and sought time to complete the reference. The NAB alleged that the former DG Sports Board and others were involved in awarding illegal contracts of the youth festivals held in 2011 and 2012. It said the contracts were given to unregistered and blue-eyed companies in violation of procurement rules. It claimed that it caused loss to national exchequer worth Rs 200 million.
