Mobile phones imports witnessed a decline of 10.87 percent in the last fiscal year (July-June) 2018-19 and remained $755.545 million compared to $847.654 million during the same period of 2017-18. Mobile phone imports in June 2019 remained $57.733 million, registering 34.18 percent negative growth as compared to $87.717 million imports in June 2018.

Last month's figure was 12.27 percent lower when compared to $65.81 million imports in May 2019. These figures were revealed in the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Mobile phones import witnessed a phenomenal growth of 19.44 percent in the fiscal year 2017-18 as it remained $847.654 million compared to $709.690 million during the same period of 2016-17.

Overall telecom imports saw a decline of 10.07 percent during July-June (2018-19) when compared to the same period of the preceding year. Total imports were recorded at $1.379 billion during this period when compared to $1.534 billion in July-June (2017-18), while registering 25.14 percent negative growth in June 2019. This figure stood at $103.234 million in June 2019 as compared to $119.588 million during May 2019. Overall telecom imports were recorded at $1.534 billion during 2017-18 compared to $1.351 billion in 2016-17.

Other telecom apparatus imports witnessed a decline of over 9.08 percent in July-June (2018-19) as they stood at $624.115 million against $686.432 million during the same period of the preceding year. When compared to May 2019, other telecom apparatus imports registered 15.39 percent negative growth in June as they were $45.501 million compared to $50.191 million in May 2019.

Other telecom apparatus imports witnessed a growth of over 6.9 percent in 2017-18 as they were $686.432 million against $642.119 million imports during the same period of 2016-17.
