Total HIV AIDS-infected patients' number rose to 90, including 67 children in Larkana, Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho told Sindh Assembly, here on Thursday. She presented the final report on the HIV/AIDS spread in the District Larkana during the assembly sitting where she apprised the lawmakers of the deadly disease outbreak in Rato Dero.

The Opposition MPAs demanded action against those ignored the HIV/AIDS spread.

Dr Azra Pechuho informed that Sindh government closed down over 20 labs and clinics in Rato Dero. She said that the deadly disease was found in about 90 patients in the area that also suggested the perilous infection spread from one doctor's treatment who applied a single medical instrument on many people during the treatment.

She said that all the infected patients were receiving treatment from the same doctor.

A team of the World Health Organisation (WHO) tracked the disease after a prolonged illness of 15 children in the area. She said the infected children aged between two months and eight years. She said that the government had clearly ordered the Sindh Healthcare Commission to take action against quacks. She said Sindh Health Department has also inspected local doctors of the area. She informed the house that Hyderabad was a high risk area. However, she ruled out screening for AIDS across the province. She said government would carry out its awareness drive in this connection.

Opposition leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi and his PTI's another legislator Khurrum Sher Zaman Khan asked the government to step up its action against those officials whose negligence caused the disease spread in the area that has caught 90 people.

Earlier, Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh told the house during the questions and answers session that the first phase of Thar coal project has completed. He said $2 billion of foreign investment was taking place there. He said synthetic gas and steel can also be made from the Thar coal. He further said that the government has marked 54,000 acres for windmills project which has been handed over to the Federal Alternative Energy Board.
