The security forces and police killed all five terrorists in a joint operation continued for over 17 hours inside a three-storey residential building here at Hayatabad township on Tuesday. An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police, Qamar Alam was martyred in the very initial stage of the operation while three other cops were injured in the shootout. The intelligence based operation was conducted at a residential compound in Phase-VII Hayatabad after police received information about presence of some six to seven terrorists inside the compound.

Soon after the information, the police party along with security forces rushed to the site and cordoned off the suspected houses.

The terrorists immediately started firing at the police party resultantly ASI Qamar Alam of Tatara police station embraced martyrdom after sustaining critical bullets injuries.

The killing of police personnel opened up a full fledge operation against terrorists and continue till 12.30 pm on Tuesday. Zahoor Afridi, SSP Operation Peshawar told media persons that operation has been successfully completed as all the terrorists were killed and the compound was cleared.

The police and security personnel participated in the 17 hours nerves testing operation. During the clearance operation, the forces recovered explosive laden motorcycle which was neutralized by the BDS squad.

The terror suspects were wanted for attacks on Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and judicial officers, security sources said. According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Shaukat Yousafzai, Pakistan Army personnel also took part in the operation.

Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood visited the site of the operation earlier today, where he lauded the professionalism of the security personnel. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qazi Jamil ur Rehman said that the building has been cleared and situation was under control.

He said that houses in the neighbourhood were vacated to avert any casualty to local residents. He clarified that the operation lasted for over 17 hours as the forces were directed to conduct the operation in such a manner to avoid casualties to civilians' lives. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister in a chat with media appreciated the timely action of the security forces against terrorists and their successful elimination. However, he remained short of revealing the identity of the terrorists killed in the operation.
