Pakistan Stock Exchange Monday witnessed a bearish, weighed mainly by selling in various sectors.

BRIndex100 lost 46.35 points or 1.09 percent to close at 4,216.24 points. BRIndex100 touched intraday high of 4,264.42 and intraday low of 4,213.28 points. Volumes stood at 61.459 million shares.

BRIndex30 decreased by 342.56 points or 1.55 percent to close at 21,797.26 points with a daily turnover of 45.628 million shares.

The KSE-100 Index declined by 409.34 points or 1.02 percent to close below the crucial level of 40,000 at 39,606.79 points. Trading activity remained extremely low as daily volumes on the ready counter decreased to 68.072 million shares as compared to 98.734 million shares traded Friday.

The market capitalization declined by Rs 61 billion to Rs 7.893 trillion. Out of total 346 active scrips, 220 closed in negative, 105 in positive while the value of 21 stocks remained unchanged.

Bank of Punjab was the volume leader with 12.229 million shares. However, it declined by Re 0.56 to close at Rs 12.80 followed by Siddiqsons Tin that lost Re 0.53 to close at Rs 20.80 with 5.202 million shares.

Bhanero Textile and Sanofi-Aventis were the top gainers with Rs 42.29 and Rs 35.00, respectively to close at Rs 888.22 and Rs 860.00. Nestle Pakistan and Wyeth Pak were the top losers with Rs 300.00 and Rs 16.00, respectively to close at Rs 8,600.00 and Rs 1,084.00.

BR Commercial Banks Index declined by 101.92 points or 1.19 percent to close at 8,472.66 points with total turnover of 20.785 million shares.

BR Cement Index decreased by 64.1 points or 1.46 percent to close at 4,329.08 points with 4.477 million shares.

BR Oil and Gas Index lost 21.0 points or 0.42 percent to close at 4,958.09 points with 3.965 million shares.

BR Tech. & Comm. Index closed at 1,004.92 points, down 11.88 points or 1.17 percent with 2.759 million shares.

BR Power Generation and Distribution Index plunged by 54.22 points or 0.89 percent to close at 6,056.18 points with 3.558 million shares.

Danish Ladhani at JS Global Capital said Pakistan equities closed negative with KSE-100 Index shedding 409 points. The local bourse made a high and a low of plus 30 and minus 465 points, respectively.

Financials were the major laggards in the session. LUCK (down 1.9 percent) and DGKC (down 2.3 percent) from the Cement sector also closed in the red zone. HBL (down 2.6 percent), UBL (down 3.5 percent), HUBC (down 1.8 percent), LUCK (down 1.9 percent), OGDC (down 0.9 percent), PPL (down 0.9 percent), ENGRO (down 0.7 percent) and BAHL (down 1.0 percent) were among the top scrip to cumulatively contributed negative 228 points to the close.
