Speaking to Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Qureshi briefed him on the evolving regional situation post Pulwama incident in Indian occupied Kashmir. The foreign minister thanked China for its steadfast support and underscored Pakistan's desire for peace and stability in the region and resolution of all issues through negotiations and dialogue with India. He also highlighted the steps taken by Pakistan to de-escalate the situation.
The spokesperson stated that the State Councillor Wang Yi thanked the foreign minister for the call and appreciated Pakistan's efforts. He agreed that the unfolding regional situation is serious with implications for peace and security of the entire region. He also acknowledged Pakistan's invaluable contributions in the fight against terrorism for which Pakistan has paid a heavy price. The two foreign ministers agreed to stay in touch with each other over the regional developments.
In his telephonic conversation with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, the spokesperson said that the two foreign ministers expressed satisfaction at the current level of bilateral relations and agreed to translate the existing friendship and mutual goodwill into a strong political and economic partnership.
He said that Foreign Minister Qureshi briefed his German counterpart on the evolving situation after the Pulwama incident and stressed that despite baseless allegations and aggressive rhetoric emanating from India, Pakistan has offered cooperation in investigating the incident and asked India to share any actionable evidence in this regard. "Pakistan desires a peaceful neighbourhood and remains committed to peace and stability in the region," Qureshi said.
The foreign minister also highlighted the human rights violations by the security forces in the Indian occupied Kashmir against Kashmiris in the aftermath of the Pulwama incident.
The German foreign minister appreciated Pakistan's overtures and stressed upon the need to preserve peace and stability in the region. The two foreign ministers agreed to continue consultations on matters of mutual importance. Foreign Minister Qureshi also spoke to EU Vice President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on telephone and the two leaders expressed satisfaction at the current state of relations and exchanged views on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
Foreign Minister Qureshi briefed the high representative on the current situation of peace and security in the region, in particular in the aftermath of the Pulwama incident. He conveyed that Pakistan had expressed readiness to investigate the incident and asked India to share actionable intelligence in this regard. He also highlighted the gross human rights violations perpetrated by the security forces in the Indian Occupied Kashmir against unarmed Kashmiris, especially after the Pulwama incident.
The foreign minister underscored that Pakistan remains committed to peace and stability in the region. The EU high representative stressed upon the need for working towards normalising the situation between the two neighbours. She appreciated Pakistan's efforts to defuse tensions and extended support to normalise the situation. The two sides also agreed to continue working towards further strengthening bilateral cooperation and agreed to continue consultations on issues of importance.
Meanwhile, British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jeremy Hunt telephoned Foreign Minister Qureshi and exchanged views on the regional situation. Qureshi briefed his British counterpart on the deteriorating security situation of the South Asia in the wake of Pulwama attack and urged him that Britain being the permanent member of the UN Security Council should play an effective role in easing the tension between Pakistan and India.
"The British secretary of state for foreign and commonwealth affairs assured the foreign minister that his country will play its effective role to tone down the tension between Pakistan and India," Jeremy Hunt was quoted by Foreign Office spokesperson as having conveyed to the Foreign Minister.
Hunt also stated that Pakistan and India should resolve their outstanding issues through peaceful negotiation. The two foreign ministers also agreed to continue consultations on all issues including the bilateral relations.
The foreign minister also separately spoke to the foreign ministers of Japan and Poland and updated them on the security situations of the region in the wake of Pulwama attack.
