Banking and petroleum sectors remained on the top among leading taxpaying companies for the Tax Year-2018, which received appreciation certificates from Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Wednesday. Among other top taxpaying sectors/industries included telecom, auto, pharmaceutical, food, fertilizer, power and cement sectors.

Within the category of individuals, top taxpayers included former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, renowned banker Arif Habib and leading businessman Hassan Mansha. The government has also recognised the role of association of persons (AOPs) in payment of taxes to the national exchequer and awarded appreciation certificates.

In the list of top 50 individual taxpayers, Karachi has emerged with the highest number of 33 individuals who contributed highest taxes in tax year 2018, followed by six individuals from Lahore, three from Gujranwala, two from Islamabad.

Five cities--Sukkur, Abbottabad, Hyderabad, Quetta and Multan shared one each taxpayers fall in the list of 50 top individuals taxpayers.

In the list of top 50 AoPs, Karachi has topped the list with 17 AoPs with the highest contribution in taxes in the tax year 2018 followed by 10 in Lahore, eight in Quetta, three each in Gujranwala and Islamabad, two each in Hyderabad, Peshawar, Abbottabad and Sukkur, one in Multan, respectively.

The list of top 50 companies was again topped by Karachi based companies with a total number of 21 contributing the highest amount in total taxes, followed by 16 companies registered in Islamabad capital territory, nine in Lahore, two in Multan and one each in Faisalabad and Peshawar.
