He also thanked the Crown Prince on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan for ordering to release the Pakistani prisoners, adding that the inmates were languishing in different jails. "I believe that this gesture of goodwill will further promote the bilateral relations between the two countries," Qureshi said.
Meanwhile in a tweet, the foreign minister said that, besides freeing 2,107 Pakistani prisoners, the kingdom will also review the cases of the remaining prisoners languishing in different jails of Saudi Arabia. "HRH Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has graciously agreed to free 2107 Pakistani prisoners in Saudi Arabia with immediate effect. Cases of the remaining will be reviewed. People of Pakistan thank HRH for responding immediately to Prime Minister Imran Khan's request," he stated in a tweet.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry also took to the Twitter to share the good news, saying: "As a sequel to Prime Minister of Pakistan request, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of KSA Mohammed Bin Salman has ordered the immediate release of 2,107 Pakistani prisoners in Saudi Jails". Sources said that there are around 3,000 Pakistani prisoners in different Saudi jails under various charges, out of them 1,764 are facing the drug trafficking.
