The polio campaign will be carried out in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Malakand, Lower Dir, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, D I Khan, Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram, Mohmad, Orakzai, South and North Waziristan districts, for which more than 16,532 specialized polio health workers have been designated.
As many as 14,377 mobile, 1,230 fixed, 802 transit and 123 roaming teams have been formed for the polio campaign. Around 3,832 areas incharges will monitor the performance of the polio teams.
In this connection, a meeting was chaired by EOC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Coordinator, Capt Kamran Ahmad Afridi (retd), which attended by Director EPI Dr Ikram Shah, BMJF Focal Person Dr Imtiaz Ali Shah, Unicef team leader, Dr Mohammad Johar Khan, WHO team leader Abidi Nasir and other relevant officials. The meeting thoroughly discussed the polio situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and newly merged tribal districts after surfacing of two new cases in Bajaur and Bannu in current year.
Capt Kamran Afridi (retd) while speaking at the meeting said that more efforts were needed to stop virus circulation in the environment and teams should make every effort to vaccinate child below the age of five.
Kamran Afridi said that polio eradication is the government programme and is national emergency and requested the parents to immunize their children against polio.
