The project consisting of three sections - Machike-Chak Pirana, Chak Pirana-Rawat and Rawat-Taru Jabba - aims at transportation of high speed diesel and motor spirit.
The project was proposed by Attock Refinery Limited back in 2001.
The then Prime Minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, had stated in a meeting that transportation of petroleum products through oil tankers was expensive compared to the pipeline. Moreover, oil supply through the pipeline was safe and environment-friendly and a lot of time would be saved as issues like clogged roads would not crop up.
The project will be capable of transporting dual oil products (i.e. high speed diesel (HSD) and motor spirit (MS)) from Machike to Taru Jabba via Chakpirana and Sihala depots, completing the pipeline 'backbone' from Karachi to Peshawar. The implementation of project involves construction of the buried pipeline (approximately 430km).
