Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday declared that it can't order judicial inquiry as the authority rests with the district & session judge to hold such inquiry. The SHC's Registrar responding to the request of Sindh Government for the holding judicial inquiry on the murder of Irshad Ranjhani in Malir district of Karachi, which triggered an outcry in the entire province.

On the directives of Sindh Chief Minister, provincial home secretary sent a letter to Registrar SHC to conduct the judicial inquiry of Ranjhani's murder.

In a written reply to Sindh Government, SHC's Registrar stated that high court can't hold the judicial inquiry directly as the powers rest with the district and session of judge.

The Register SHC said that the Sindh Government can request the district & session judge of Malir concerned for the holding the judicial inquiry into the murder of Ranjhani.

Session judge himself or through Additional Session Judge can conduct the judicial inquiry into the incident.

The Register also referred to an order of high court of 200, which explicitly suggests that only the session judge concerned can be requested for the judicial inquiry of an incident. The Registrar attached the order of high court on judicial inquiry with the reply to Sindh government.
