More than 500 illegal constructions including shops, markets and houses were demolished during a grand anti-encroachment operation carried under the auspices of district administration here at Sarband and Sangu localities on Bara Road.

The operation was conducted on the directives of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Peshawar while the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shahid Ali Khan and other officers of the district administration directly supervised the operation. A heavy contingent of police was also deployed to prevent any kind of unpleasant incident.

During the operation, more than 500 illegal constructions including shops, houses and markets in an area of 8 kilometer were demolished through heavy machinery and the road was opened for traffic. The people of the locality have expressed gratitude and satisfaction over the operation.

Speaking on the occasion, ADC Shahid Ali Khan said that due to those encroachments people were facing hardships and Bara Road was used to witness traffic jam as usual while the area was rampant with drainage problems.

He was thankful to shopkeepers for extending cooperation to administration during the anti-encroachment operation. He said that operation would continue till the abolition of encroachments on Bara Road while operation against encroachment mafia in other localities would be initiated soon.
