Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said that duration of travelling by train between Lahore and Rawalpindi will be reduced by half an hour in March. "The department concerned has been assigned the task to improve track between Lahore-Rawalpindi," he said, addressing a press conference at the PR headquarters, here on Saturday.

He said that the PR had collected Rs320 million as fine in a campaign against people travelling without tickets during the last three months that he called a big amount. He further said that now the PR police had been given authority to take action against ticket dodgers.

The Minister said that headquarters of the Pakistan Railways Freight Corporation has been shifted to Karachi from Lahore and he would himself monitor the process to attract maximum business for the freight sector. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan would inaugurate Thal Express on February 12 which would travel from Mianwali, Kundian, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Bhakkar and Multan. The train will leave Multan at 7 a.m. for Mianwali through same route every morning.

He said that March 30 had been finalised for the VIP train that had been named 'Jinnah Express.' Another such train Sir Syed Ahmad Khan would also be launched. He said two freight trains are already operational and two more would become operational in March. He said that a meeting on progress of ML-1 project would be held this week. Sheikh also announced starting inspection of Narowal and Sialkot Stations constructed during last government's tenure at a cost of Rs 10 million. He reiterated his assertion that appointment of Shahbaz Sharif as chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was a blunder committed by the PTI-led government.
