INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee maintained overnight rising trend in terms of the dollar, picking up 11 paisas for buying and selling at Rs 138.63 and Rs 138.67 respectively, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee also gained 20 paisas in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 138.30 and Rs 138.80 respectively, while the rupee stayed put against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 157.60 and Rs 159.10 respectively, they said.
In the second Asian trade, the safe-haven yen firmed on Tuesday after the US Justice Department charged China's Huawei Technologies Co Ltd with fraud, racketing up US-Sino trade tensions and prompting investors to ditch risky assets.
The United States on Monday charged China's Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, its chief financial officer and two affiliates with bank and wire fraud to violate sanctions against Iran in a case that has escalated tensions with Beijing.
Investors fear the charges could complicate high-level trade talks set to begin on Wednesday where China's Vice Premier Liu He will meet with US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and others.
The yen, a currency sought out during times of market uncertainty or economic stress, advanced a little on the greenback to 109.27. Against the Aussie dollar, the yen was up 0.4 percent to 78.04.
The dollar index, a gauge of its value versus six major peers, was flat at 95.72 and holding close to a two-week low.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 71.110, the greenback was at 4.111 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was available at 6.744 in relation to the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee registered reduction in process of trading against the US dollar in the local currency market on Tuesday.
According to currency dealers, the short supply phenomenon of the US dollar prevailed throughout the trading session which helped its appreciation for buying and selling at Rs 138.20 and Rs 139.30 against the previous closing trend of Rs 138.15 and Rs 139.00 respectively.
Furthermore, the local currency recovered 20 paisas against the pound sterling and ended for buying at Rs 181.10 against the overnight closing rate of Rs 181.30 whereas it firmly sustained its opening trend for selling at Rs 182.40, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee further gained 10 paisa against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 138.50 (buying) and Rs 138.60 (selling) against last rate of Rs 138.60 (buying) and Rs 138.70 (selling). It closed at Rs 138.50 (buying) and Rs 138.60(selling).
The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold was Rs 67,800 (selling) and Rs 67,5000 (buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
