Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Tuesday left for Oman on a two-day official visit to hold talks with Omani leadership on issues of mutual interest including enhancement in trade and economic relations. Talking to state media before his departure to Oman, Qureshi said that he would lead Pakistan's delegation in the meeting of the Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission.

Besides the foreign ministers of the two countries, he said that representatives of various departments of the two countries will also attend the meeting. "Oman is an important country of the region. Pakistan and Oman enjoy long-term and friendly relations," he said.

Qureshi said he will hold meetings with Omani prime minister and foreign minister as well as other high officials of the country. He said that the focus of the talks will be on enhancing cooperation in various areas between the two countries, adding that the two sides will also sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

He said that the two sides will also hold talks on chalking out a joint action plan on future cooperation between the two countries. Qureshi said that he would also take the Omani leadership into confidence on the regional development and Afghanistan's situation. He said that Pakistan will continue its positive role for regional peace and stability. The foreign minister said that he will also meet with Pakistani diaspora living in Oman.
