Jordan has struggled to purchase wheat and barley in tenders in recent months after the introduction of terms for quality specifications and payment which reduced tender participation by international trading houses. But some recent tenders have been more successful. Ten trading houses took part in Jordan's last tender for barley on Wednesday, when 60,000 tonnes was bought.
This was the largest number of trading houses to have taken part in a tender in Jordan in recent months and regarded as a normal level for Middle Eastern buyers. But Jordan made no purchase in another tender for 120,000 tonnes of wheat on Tuesday and has also issued a new wheat tender closing on January 29.
The new barley tender seeks shipment in a range of possible combinations in 60,000-tonne consignments. Possible shipment periods are June 1-15, June 16-30, July 1-15 and July 16-31.
