Speaking at a seminar titled "Drug Free Islamabad," organised by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration in collaboration with Pakistan Red Crescent, he said that the government will leave no stone unturned to eliminate the menace of drug from the country.
However, he asserted that parents have a core responsibility to pay special attention towards their children to secure their bright future through safeguarding them from the menace of drugs. "We will have to make a pledge to get rid of the scourge of drugs on
emergency basis," he emphasised, adding that the role of the parents and civil society is very important to create awareness in this regard. On the part of the government, he said all-out efforts are being made to make the country free of drugs, adding that there would be no compromise on drugs trade.
"No matter how much the mafia is powerful, we would take them to task," he said, adding that an effective drive against the drug mafia is underway which is bearing fruit. He said that crackdown against drug peddlers, suppliers and facilitators will continue until desired results are achieved, adding that the mafia is playing with future generation.
He noted that the seminar is a clear manifestation of the government's vision and seriousness of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to curb this menace from the society, adding that the youth is the worst target.
He underscored the need for joint efforts and urged the parents to fulfil their responsibilities and keep a vigilant eye on their children, adding that the role of parents in upbringing of children in society is very important and any negligence on their part can end up in regret for the whole life.
Chief Commissioner Islamabad Amir Ahmad Ali, in his address, called for collective efforts and urged the masses to join hands with the ICT police in their capacities to make the city free of drugs.
He said the basic objective of the seminar is to bring all stakeholders on the same page vis-à-vis creating an awareness to eliminate the menace of drugs from the society.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Aamir Zulfiqar Khan said that the Islamabad capital territory police are committed to take on the drugs' mafia, adding that the crackdown against them will continue. He said that police are showing zero tolerance against criminal elements involved in the business to make the city free of drugs.
