In this respect, the gas utility has started operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where Unaccounted for Gas (UFG) is as high as 21 percent. Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ghulam Sarwar Khan directed SNGPL, Peshawar region, for grand operation against illegal gas connections.

During the operation, 6,550-meter illegal gas pipeline has been cut so far in areas of Sarband, Bahadur Kallay, Landi Sarrak, Chaersada Road and Landi Arbab. Apart from this, 6 FIRs have been registered while respective police stations have been taken in loop for registration of another 21 FIRs.

General Manager, SNGPL Peshawar Region, Arbab Saqib said that legal action will be taken against the people who are using compressors. In this regard, 57 compressors and 68 gas meters have been disconnected. Work on 32km gas supply line from Darra Adamkhel to Peshawar is nearing completion to supplement and address low gas pressure issue in the area, he said.

Similarly, a 16-inch diameter pipeline would provide direct gas to the industrial estate near Hayatabad. Moreover, an extra 12 inches pipeline will be added in order to resolve gas pressure issue in Peshawar. The operation would help increase the revenue of the gas company and resolve low gas pressure and gas load shedding in the country.
