Consul General of Sri Lanka, GL Genetanatwa has expressed interest in promoting bilateral trade with Pakistan. Speaking at a meeting at Karachi Wholesale Grocers Association (KWGA), he urged the traders of Karachi to review opportunities for exporting items besides rice to Sri Lankan market. He said despite the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the trade volume is not at good level. Pakistani exporters should take advantage of FTA. There is a large number of other items may be exported to Sri Lanka.
Patron in chief KWGA, Anees Majeed appreciated interest in the promotion of bilateral trade of Sri Lankan Consul General, and suggested that under FTA, Pakistan can export 60,000 metric ton rice to Sri Lanka, which is very little quantity accordingly Sri Lankan huge market consumption.
Therefore for promotion of bilateral trade, Sri Lanka should increase rice quota under FTA, which can enhance the trade volume, while Pakistani importers also want to explore Sri Lankan markets.
