Federal Investigation Bureau (FIA) prosecutor told the court that the joint investigation team (JIT) has been probing into the accusations while the case is being handed over to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), and subsequently asked the court to halt the proceedings on bail until final investigations are concluded.
The court however extended the siblings interim pre-arrest bails and adjourned the case. Meanwhile, the defense counsel of Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani Majeed, accused in the same case pleaded with the court for the bails of Anwar Majeed and Abdul Ghani Majeed, and argued that the FIA should be ordered to submit a final challan in the case.
The court ordered to provide complete medical facilities to Abdul Ghani Majeed. However, it stated that Anwar and Abdul Ghani Majeed's bail application will be heard on February 6 (Wednesday). It is worth-recalling that the Supreme Court had stopped the banking court from passing any orders. It can only pass orders after the Supreme Court allows it to do so.
On December 29, Anwar Majeed, the head of the Omni Group filed a petition in the Supreme Court to have the JIT report implicating him in the case rejected. The petition, which has also been filed on behalf of his son Abdul Ghani Majeed, rejects the JIT report and its allegations. "The applicants are entirely innocent of each and every one of the (false) allegations made in the JIT report and its executive summary," says the petition. There is no lawful basis for the JIT request that the allegations be referred to NAB, it adds.
