The opposition leader while referring to the Sahiwal incident said, "Selected prime minister is present in the House after four months. Imran Khan had asked for my resignation and arrest of Rana Sanaullah after the Model Town incident. Rana Sanaullah had voluntarily stepped down within 48 hours of the incident." He said, "After the Model Town incident, we suspended all officers of Regional Police Office (RPO) Lahore at the same night and announced formation of a judicial commission under the supervision of a high court judge."
The opposition leader claimed that the incumbent Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar could not act without seeking permission from the Prime Minister. He claimed that the Punjab chief minister takes instructions from the Prime Minster on WhatsApp. He said, "First the Prime Minister Imran Khan and then Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar should tender their resignations on brutal killing of four persons by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officials in Sahiwal."
While responding to the opposition leader, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader raised the Sahiwal incident against the rules of business which have been settled in the Advisory Committee of the House. He said it was decided that first the finance bill would be presented in the House and then the opposition leader would speak on the floor of the House.
Qureshi said the government had not only condemned the tragic incident of Sahiwal but the prime minister had also issued directives to the chief minister of Punjab. "We have already debated the incident for two days in the House. It wasn't appropriate to raise it now," he said. He said opposition leader used inappropriate words about the prime minister and it is not suitable.
The foreign minister said JIT findings are that Khalil family was innocent. The chief minister was directed by the prime minister to take action against the perpetrators. He said there was no role of the Punjab government whatsoever in Sahiwal incident. "No attempt was made for a cover-up after the incident. We will not hide any fact," minister said. The foreign minister told that the prime minister directed that a report on Sahiwal incident should be presented within 72 hours. "The JIT within the timeframe came to the conclusion that Khalil family was innocent." Whoever found guilty would be punished as per the law. "We are also ready to give an in-camera briefing to the House," Qureshi said.
The foreign minister clarified that the JIT has sought additional time to probe Zeeshan who was driving the vehicle. He also requested not to use this incident for political point-scoring.
