Select buying in various sectors supported the Pakistan Stock Exchange Monday to close on a positive note.

BRIndex100 gained 29.68 points or 0.71 percent to close at 4,193.82 points. BRIndex100 touched intraday high of 4,225.42 and intraday low of 4,162.78 points. Volumes stood at 117.527 million shares.

BRIndex30 increased by 70.73 points or 0.32 percent to close at 22,058.77 points with a turnover of 81.060 million shares.

The KSE-100 Index surged by 237.27 points or 0.60 percent to close at 39,543.77 points. Trading activity however remained thin as daily volumes decreased to 124.490 million shares as compared to 155.001 million shares traded Friday.

The market capitalization increased by Rs 44 billion to Rs 7.970 trillion. Out of total 340 active scrips, 162 closed in positive, 158 in negative while the value of 20 stocks remained unchanged.

K-Electric was the volume leader with 19.089 million shares. It gained Re 0.12 to close at Rs 6.57 followed by Fauji Foods that lost Rs 1.77 to close at Rs 33.63 with 10.126 million shares.

Nestle Pakistan and Indus Motor Co were the top gainers with Rs 131.00 and Rs 53.98, respectively to close at Rs 8,031.00 and Rs 1,243.78. Unilever Foods and Jubilee Life Ins were the top losers with Rs 89.00 and Rs 25.99, respectively to close at Rs 7,200.00 and Rs 513.01.

BR Commercial Banks Index increased by 78.47 point or 0.94 percent to close at 8,425.44 points with total turnover of 12.371 million shares.

BR Cement Index declined by 70.06 points or 1.7 percent to close at 4,055.33 points with 6.394 million shares.

BR Oil and Gas Index gained 57.32 points or 1.18 percent to close at 4,920.41 points with 10.662 million shares.

BR Tech. & Comm. Index lost 5.49 points or 0.54 percent to close at 1,010.75 points with 7.300 million shares.

BR Power Generation and Distribution Index closed at 6,285.96 points, up 47.51 points or 0.76 percent with 20.736 million shares.

Maaz Mulla at JS Global Capital said that the KSE-100 index recouped to finally close at 39,544 levels, up 237 points or 0.6 percent. Heavy-weight sectors such as Financials, Energy and Fertilizers cumulatively contributed plus 277 points towards the close where MCB (up 0.8 percent), PPL (up 2.6 percent), HBL (up 2.9 percent), OGDC (up 1.9 percent), POL (up 1.9 percent), FABL (up 3.9 percent), UBL (up 2.2 percent) and FFC (up 1.7 percent) closed in the positive zone. Cement sector was the major dampener where LUCK (down 1.6 percent), MLCF (down 3.4 percent), PIOC (down 3.2 percent), CHCC (down 1.8 percent) and DGKC (down 2.9 percent) closed in the red zone.
