Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Sunday lambasted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government for what he said "turning Punjab into a police state." "Sahiwal firing incident is a message that citizens should not go out of their houses with their children in Naya Pakistan," he said in a statement, adding that the killing of innocent people is a slap in the face of the PTI's so-called change-oriented government.

He questioned the good governance citing that the government disappeared after the incident. He urged that now the people claiming to emulate the state of Medina model explain where those responsible of the Sahiwal tragedy are? He turned down the government's announcement to probe the case, asserting that the government was seeking media headlines and no one trusts the PTI government's probe. "The people who transferred SSPs and IGPs will not be able to do justice. Jungle law has been imposed in the country in the name of Naya Pakistan," he asserted.
