According to sources, the opposition is trying to include the name of Akhtar Mengal. If Mengal does not agree to this, some other member of his party - Balochistan National Party would be included in the committee, they said.
The decision has been taken by the leaders of opposition parties in a meeting at the Parliament House on Tuesday. The meeting of the leaders of opposition parties took place on the invitation of Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif.
PPP Chairman Bilwal Bhutto Zardari, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Syed Naveed Qamar, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Asadur Rehman, Amir Haider Khan Hoti of ANP and other opposition leaders participated in the meeting that was held in the chamber of Opposition Leader Shehbaz Shiarf. On the special invitation of the opposition parties, the meeting was also attended by BNP's Agha Hassan Baloch and Haji Hashim.
Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Asif Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto upon their arrival at his chamber.
According to sources, the special committee of opposition parties will hold talks with the PTI government on key political issues, including extension in military courts, mini-budget and economic situation of the country.
After meeting, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari confirmed that opposition parties have formed an alliance and will adopt a joint strategy on various political issues to give a tough time to the PTI government. "The opposition parties are united," Zardari said.
Responding to another question concerning Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan's tweet, Zardari said, "Opposition has been staging a walkout since day one, why will we seek an NRO?"
"The government is not in a position to give anything and we don't need any NRO," he added.
"Neither we want the NRO nor can the government give us one," he went on to say.
Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that unity in opposition parties is a big success. He said that the meeting discussed the three point-agenda including extension in the tenure of military courts, mini-budget and reviewing Charter of Democracy (CoD) by inducting other political parties into it.
He said that it was decided to include other political parties in the CoD. He said that the special committee would prepare recommendations for evolving a joint strategy of the opposition parties inside and outside the Parliament.
He said the opposition would not compromise on the economy, democracy and human rights.
Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif said that the committee will formulate proposals for adopting a joint line of action to help resolve the national issues. He said that joint opposition decided to evolve strategy to handle economy and strengthen democracy and freedom of press.
Sharif also called for a fresh bidding for Mohmand Dam to ensure transparency in this mega project. He said that inflation, unemployment and other important issues are going out of control and no foreign investors is ready to invest in the country.
The opposition leaders also regretted that the PTI government has failed on economic front. They also expressed concerns over hike in prices of gas, power, medicines and essential commodities of daily use. The opposition parties also rejected the government's move to present a mini budget. They said it will only add to the problems of the common man.
