According to an order, commission visited Fateh Park, which is located in DMC Central on the request of DMC Chairman, where registered society under the name of 'Nation Building Initiative' has introduced a scheme titled 'Green Initiative' converting the sewage into grey water and or water which could be utilized for any purpose other than human consumption.
The scheme visited was very impressive. Not only Fateh Park but the other areas of the vicinity are also benefiting through the water which is being treated by the reed bed.
The scheme was brought to the notice of commission for the first time and the DMC Chairman Central informed the Commission that he has introduced conversion of the sewerage water into grey water.
DMC Chairman has planned to take benefit of the working of society by introducing these schemes in different parks within DMC Central. Such schemes can make a huge difference if introduced in larger parks like Karachi Zoo, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Bagh-e-lbn-e-Qasim, Benazir Park and Salan Park.
Introduction of such schemes will definitely ease out the pressure on potable water and grey water will be utilized for gardening and maintenance of green patches.
Besides the grey water, the discharge of sewage in Arabian Sea will also be reduced, in turn having positive impact on marine life. The Sindh Government is thus required to examine the feasibility of converting sewage into grey water using the methodology adopted in Fateh Park, order stated.
